History of Bellaire Young Mothers

BYM has a long history of serving moms and the City of Bellaire and surrounding communities.

Originally, “young” in the organization’s name referred to the age of children who were younger than 5 years old. Around that age, moms would transition to connecting with moms at school groups. However, BYM connections are strong and we have activities for big kids in addition to the young ones. Thus, we do not have any age limit for children.

In the past, “Bellaire” in the organization’s name referred to the fact that membership was limited to zip code 77401 and a few specified zip codes. With more events being online and the understanding that in-person events are more likely to happen in and around the Bellaire area, BYM membership is not limited to zip codes. Anyone is welcomed to join BYM!

BYM is a volunteer organization with Bylaws and is coordinated by a Board who meets monthly. Every June, new Board members begin planning the year of activities. In January, a Vice President is chosen among the Board members. This person serves as VP from January to May until becoming the new President in June.

Many of the events are made possible by collecting dues. In 1993, membership dues were $12 and increased over time. In 2020, the annual fee became $30. Membership runs from January to December.
