Public School Forum

In a big city like Houston, there are so many choices when it comes to education beyond simply private or public schools. In Houston ISD, there are school choice options such as magnet, dual language, and Vanguard (gifted and talented, GT) programs. Every year, the deadlines change and the testing and application process changes too. As a new (or experienced) parent, this can be a confusing path to navigate. Houston ISD offers district-wide school fairs, and that can be overwhelming just to find the answers to questions that are relevant to you. Therefore, as a service to our members, we annually host a Public School Forum where you can learn more about the application process for school choice and GT testing, speak directly to magnet coordinators in and around the Bellaire area, and figure out which is the best school for your child. Even if you have a toddler, it’s a good idea to start researching your options early. Check-out this Fall event on the BYM Calendar or contact the Education and Service Coordinator for more information.

Private School Forum

Similar to the Public School Forum, BYM hosts a Private School Forum with local private schools. While these application processes are pretty consistent year to year, the Private School Forum is an opportunity to meet school representatives, learn about differences in the admissions process among schools, and find the best fit for your child. A vibrant speaker leads this forum and helps parents to consider questions that can guide their decisions. Please look at the BYM Calendar in the Fall or contact the Education and Service Coordinator for questions.

Speaker Events

There is so much to learn to help your kids (and you) grow physically, emotionally, and intellectually. BYM works with local experts to provide 1-hour seminars to moms on topics such as sleep training, potty training, academic tips, helping children manage their emotions, home organization, efficient meal planning, parenting skills, adoption, and career coaching. These events are generally limited to 10 members in order to provide opportunities for personal questions. Check-out the BYM Calendar for upcoming Speaker Events. If you have a request for a seminar topic or a recommendation for an expert to speak to BYM, please contact the Education and Service Coordinator.
